For Crown Molding:
Miter Angle = arctan(cos(wall angle) × tan(45°))
Bevel Angle = arcsin(sin(wall angle) × sin(45°))
Common Settings:
- Inside corner: Miter 31.6°, Bevel 33.9°
- Outside corner: Miter 31.6°, Bevel 33.9°
- Spring angle 45°: Most common crown molding
Steps:
- Measure wall angle with digital gauge
- Set miter saw to calculated angles
- Test cut on scrap material
- Adjust as needed for perfect fit

Total Rise ÷ Number of Steps = Individual Rise
Total Run ÷ (Number of Steps – 1) = Individual Run
Code Requirements:
Rise: 7-7.75 inches maximum
Run: 10 inches minimum
Rise + Run should equal 17-18 inches
Cutting Steps:
- Mark rise and run on framing square
- Use stair gauges for consistent layout
- Cut top and bottom angles
- Use first stringer as template
- Check level and square before installing
